Emilia Shikeenga, estudiant de l'EPS, aconsegueix una beca d'estudis a través de la Fundació "Mujeres por África"

Emilia Naambo Shikeenga, de Namíbia, estudiant del Màster en Enginyeria Informàtica a l’Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS)de la Universitat de Lleida (UdL) ha estat una de les estudiants africanes becades a través de la Fundació Mujeres por África.

Aquesta beca financia el preu de la matrícula universitària, les despeses de viatge, l'allotjament, l'assegurança d'assistència sanitària i una manutenció  mensual.

L'Emilia ha estat seleccionada a través del programa Learn Africa de la Fundació que presideix Maria Teresa Fernández de la Vega, vicepresidenta primera del Govern espanyol de J.L. Rodríguez Zapatero.

Emilia Naambo Shikeenga  was born in Windhoek, Namibia. She holds a B.IT: Software Engineering and a BSc (Hon) Computer Science degree both from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) formerly known as the Polytechnic of Namibia. Emilia is currently pursuing her Masters in Computer Science.
Emilia presently works as a Business Intelligence Analyst in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse division at Telecom Namibia.
She is the Vice Chairperson of Namibia Women in Computing Society (NWiC) and the ACM Women in Computing Windhoek Chapter (ACM-W). She is also both the Co-Lead of the Google’s Developers Group (GDG) Windhoek and the Facebook Developer Circle, and founding member of the Internet Society of Namibia (ISOC)  and member of the Namibia Business Innovation Institute (NBII) Developer’s Circle.

Emilia is a YALI Regional Leadership Southern Africa 2017 (Cohort 10) Alumni and she is also a Queens Young Leaders Highly recommended Runner up 2018.

Emilia has played active roles in teaching a wide range of technologies to marginalised groups, including women, giving free android training and has travelled elsewhere in Africa in technology and social-upliftment roles.

She is passionate about Computer Science and helping people and she is actively involved in computing/developer related community projects. She is also very keen on advocating for and encouraging women to take up the field of computing. She believes in contributing to changing the world to make it a better place, with whatever little she has to offer.
