Magí Clavé

Magí Clavé graduated from the University of Barcelona in Computer Sciences and obtained an MBA from ESADE. He completed Advanced Management Programmes in IESE (2000), Oxford University (2007) and Chicago University (2015). He started his professional career in the IT software development centre at the headquarters of Siemens in Munich, later managing IT banking projects for international clients in Germany, Canada, Portugal, and Spain.

From 1995 to 2004 he was Director of IT at the Deutsche Bank in Spain; his responsibilities included the establishment of a pan-European Centre of Competence in order to develop banking applications for Deutsche Bank Retail & Private and Corporate Banking across Europe.

In 2005, he joined the European Central Bank as Senior Manager in the Directorate General Information Systems; the main mission was to professionalise IT services within the Bank, transform the ECB IT landscape and to strengthen the unit in order to master the future challenges e.g. the incorporation of new countries to the Euro. 

Following an ECB restructuring in January 2010, Magí Clavé was appointed as Deputy Director General. As a deputy he focuses on leading a number of strategic initiatives such as ECB IT mobile, ECB digitalisation, Big Data and Data Centres as well as Business Continuity Strategy. All these strategic projects aim to modernise the institution. Simultaneously, he has been in charge of delivering critical infrastructure and business solutions. He is also a member (or was a past member) of internal ECB/Eurosystem committees  e.g. for the establishment of the Supervisory Single Mechanism  in 2014, Eurosystem Information Technology Committee since 2005  and ECB Operational Risk Commitees since 2016.
